Sociable dog walk for new dog owners

Have you recently welcomed a dog into your life?

Join Coast and Country Canines for a friendly group walk and discover how to enjoy the coast and countryside with your new companion while helping to protect the wildlife that calls it home.

This relaxed, sociable walk has been designed especially for new dog owners. Led by the Coast and Country Canines team, they’re a chance to meet other dog owners, build your confidence and pick up practical advice from experienced professionals in a welcoming, informal setting.

Along the way you can:

  • Ask our team questions about life with your new dog.
  • Learn what makes a great dog walk and how to get the most from your time outdoors.
  • Discover local walking routes and hidden gems.
  • Find out how to walk responsibly in wildlife-rich areas.
  • Learn more about the birds and wildlife you encounter on your walks.
  • Meet like-minded dog owners and make new friends.

Dogs will be on-lead for most of the walk, with opportunites for off-lead play if appropriate for the group.

Whether you’re a first-time dog owner or have recently adopted a dog, we’d love you to join us for a walk, a chat and the chance to explore our fantastic local coast and countryside together.

Accessibility

The walking route will cover uneven ground and some slopes. 

Nervous dogs

Nervous dogs are welcome to join us and maintain some distance from the main group if this is more comfortable for them.

What to bring

Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring sturdy footwear.

Important note about dog walking equipment

We cannot allow the use of prong collars, shock collars (sometimes called e-collars), choke chains, slip leads, or any other kinds of aversive equipment at our walks. These tools pose safety risks and fall outside of our ethical guidelines. You are still welcome to join us using a standard flat collar or harness, and we are happy to discuss why we take this stance and ethical alternatives. 

Book your place

To book your place, email serena.cott@hants.gov.uk with the following information:

  • The number of dogs you will be bringing.
  • The number of people who will be attending.
  • A phone number that we can contact you on if need be.

Please note

Our outdoor walks and activities are weather dependant. We aim to let you know by email in good time if a walk is cancelled due to bad weather, but please check your emails before leaving home.

Time: 6pm - approximately 7pm (the end time depends on the pace of the group)

Location: We will meet at Eling Car Park (at bottom of Eling Hill) SO40 9HF
