Last weekend, River Hamble Country Park came alive with wagging tails and community spirit as our second Coast and Country Canines Dogs’ Day Out brought people and their dogs together to celebrate wildlife‑aware dog walking.
April 25 was a sunshine‑soaked day of paddling pools, happy splashes and a park buzzing with excited visitors.
There were plenty of opportunities for visitors to learn something new, try out activities, and simply enjoy spending time outdoors with their four‑legged companions. Take a look at some of our highlights and snaps from the day.
Learning, training and canine skills
A standout feature of the day was the wide range of training and enrichment activities on offer. Local trainers and behaviour specialists shared practical advice and mini tasters designed to support everyday walks, from recall and lead walking skills to scentwork and mantrailing. These sessions were popular throughout the day, with many owners stopping to chat, watch demonstrations or have a go themselves.

Outdoor adventures
There were plenty of opportunities to explore new ways of enjoying the outdoors together. Visitors could chat to the canicross team who were on hand to share information and advice about getting started in the sport and exercising safely with dogs. Alongside this, many took the chance to head out onto the beautiful walking trails around the park.
Not just walking routes, Dogs’ Day Out also hosted a fun activity trail, where dogs and their human companions could test their skills on a range of obstacles.
From tunnels and tyres to weave poles and a best trick challenge, there was something for everyone – but the standout favourite had to be the ball pit. Dogs delighted in leaping in and out, making a glorious mess, and unleashing their inner puppy. You could say… they were having a ball.

Dog welfare and support
Several organisations were on hand to advise on dog welfare, equipment and support services. Visitors could get harness and kit checks, learn more about the different kinds of dogwear available, and speak to charities and support networks working with pets and their people.

Eco treats, toys and handmade finds
No doggy day out would be complete without a bit of shopping, and the selection of eco‑friendly treats, toys and handmade accessories proved very tempting. From sustainable chews and treats to thoughtfully crafted leads and collars, the stalls reflected the event’s ethos of making mindful choices for dogs and the environment alike.
Visitors were also rewarded with tasty treats if they could find a hidden paw in our treasure hunt. We loved seeing families enthusiastically searching high and low for the decorations – and we hope everyone enjoyed their prizes!

Looking ahead
